Specifications
The New Low Roll Distraction Device is a reloadable gun steel body with a hex design. This newest version of the first reusable non-bursting canisters limits movement and rolling once deployed. The diameter of the hex design body is 2.0 inches and the overall length is 5.0 inches. The Low Roll bodies ergonomic features compliment its powerful output of light and sound and its twelve top port configuration results in and even distribution of gases from the opposing ends of the cannister. The 15-Gram reload and 4-Gram training reload are to be used only when they are screwed into the Distraction Device body.
The new Fuel Air model uses thermobaric technology, which was pioneered by Sandia National Laboratories and licensed exclusively to Safariland. This technology is an advancement in the safe deployment of light/sound devices since the combustion occurs outside of the cannister body, creating over 169(+) dB of ear-piercing sound and 6-8 million candelas of light to overload the sneses. Since the deflagration takes place outside of the body, the entire combustion is visible, resulting in an illumination period over 20 milliseconds long. This extended illumination also causes the flash image to be retained longer, which enhances the temporary disorientation effect to the exposed individual.
The reduced over-pressure, which is produced outside the cannister body, is like a wall of moving air. Although the use of any diversionary devise near people of property poses potential hazards, use of the Fuel Air Distraction Device mitigates these risks since the body of the device does not explode. This makes the product ideal for first responders and operators responding to confined, populated areas, such as buildings, trains, buses, schools or malls.
